### Everyone loves a good math problem, don’t they? No. Of course they don’t. But that doesn’t mean that people can help themselves when they have to opportunity to prove themselves smarter than someone else. Others, they actually are just in it for the challenge.

### Now, you’ll probably want the answer, won’t you?

5

### Well, let’s give some space so you don’t see it right away…

6

### Ok. This should be enough. Hopefully the mathematical images inspired you to find the right solution.

7

### Though all we see is addition, there’s clearly more to it, since those numbers just don’t add up. So there’s some multiplication in the mix.

1 + (1 x 4) = 5

2 + (2 x 5) = 12

3 + (3 x 6) = 21

8 + (8 x 11)= 96

### There’s your answer. Well, one of them. There’s another, and that’s what’s causing the disagreement.

1 + 4 = 5

2 + 5 + 5 = 12

3 + 6 + 12 = 21

8 + 11 + 21 = 40
